ArkBio Receives China IND Approval for Influenza Prophylaxis Candidate AK0406

Importance · 4/5Sources · 1

ArkBio announced that China's NMPA approved its IND application for AK0406 injection, a long-acting antiviral drug-Fc conjugate (AFC) for influenza prophylaxis, making it the first influenza AFC drug to enter clinical development in China. A Phase I trial in Australia received HREC approval in February 2026; enrollment and dosing of all healthy adult volunteer cohorts have been completed and the trial is now in follow-up.

Seasonal influenza vaccines face limitations such as antigenic drift, uncertain strain prediction, and reduced efficacy in elderly and immunocompromised populations. AK0406 is designed to provide sustained pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis with broad-spectrum activity against influenza A and B viruses, potentially addressing high unmet needs for influenza prevention. ArkBio is pursuing a parallel dual-track development pathway in China and globally to accelerate delivery of a safer, more effective solution.
