Vivani Medical Completes Semaglutide Implant Trial Enrollment and Signs Novo Nordisk Agreement
What happened
Vivani Medical reported Q2 2026 results, dosing all 20 participants in the SLIM-1 Phase 1 trial of NPM-139, a semaglutide implant, ahead of schedule with top-line data expected in November 2026. The company signed a non-exclusive agreement with Novo Nordisk to evaluate NPM-139 and its NanoPortal technology. It also appointed August J. Moretti to its board and announced a merger agreement for its subsidiary Cortigent with ClearOne. Cash totaled $20.8 million as of June 30, 2026, and net loss narrowed to $6.4 million for the quarter.
Why it matters
The trial progress and Novo Nordisk deal validate Vivani's ultra-long-acting, reversible GLP-1 implant platform, which could offer once- or twice-yearly administration. The partnership provides potential external validation while retaining non-exclusive rights. The Cortigent merger aims to separate the neurostimulation business, allowing Vivani to focus on its drug implant pipeline, with upcoming data in November 2026 potentially informing a Phase 2 study.
