At least 20 killed in new Nigeria violence

What happened

More than 20 people were killed on Friday in violence between the rival Kambari and Fulani communities in the Derkong community of Mangu, Plateau State. Lawmaker Jafar Muhammad confirmed the clashes and called for security forces.

Why it matters

The violence is linked to the recruitment of Fulani by jihadist groups, triggering deadly reprisals. Niger State has long been terrorized by gangs, and jihadist groups have established a presence there.
