K-water CEO: AI Needs Water as Well as Power
What happened
Yoon Suk-dae, CEO of K-water, said AI requires water as well as electricity. K-water is applying digital twin technology, AI water treatment plants, and smart pipeline management. Its AI water treatment plant was recognized as a global lighthouse at the World Economic Forum in 2024. At CES 2026, about 9,000 visitors attended K-water's booth, leading to export and investment consultations worth about 132 billion won. Its smart pipeline management won an award at MWC 2026.
Why it matters
Water is becoming a strategic resource that determines the competitiveness of advanced industries. Data centers and semiconductor factories require both reliable electricity and water. Climate change is increasing flood and drought volatility, making AI-based water management more important. K-water is evolving from a water utility into key infrastructure supporting South Korea's AI industry.
