ConocoPhillips Announces Leadership Transition and Strong Q2 Results
What happened
ConocoPhillips announced on Aug. 6 that Ryan M. Lance will retire as CEO, with CFO Andy O'Brien succeeding him effective Sept. 1, 2026. O'Brien joins the board, while Lance becomes Executive Chair. Konnie Haynes-Welsh becomes CFO. Q2 results showed production of 2,248,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and $4.2 billion of free cash flow. The Willow project remains on schedule for first oil in early 2029.
Why it matters
The succession ensures leadership continuity with a 30-year veteran. The company is on track to deliver $7 billion of free cash flow and has a strong asset base. The Willow expansion and recent lease sales lay groundwork for future infrastructure.
