Revolutionary Blood Test 'Opens Window to Brain' for Cancer Diagnosis
What happened
Researchers at AIBN have developed a Phenotype Analyzer Chip that can detect glioblastoma from a drop of blood. Tested on over 40 brain cancer patients, the device captures extracellular vesicles carrying information across the blood-brain barrier. The research was published in Science Advances.
Why it matters
This non-invasive test could enable earlier and more precise monitoring of brain cancer, allowing swift treatment adjustments and potentially avoiding invasive procedures. It may also offer new insights into other neurological conditions such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and motor neurone disease, and could greatly benefit patients in rural and remote areas who face barriers to advanced medical care.
